The Fergus Falls boys’ track and field team is strong in numbers and should be very competitive as Head Coach Derek Meyer begins his third year at the helm.  He will be assisted by Randy Hansen, Denny Hystead, Ike Carlson, Shawn Papon and Jon Pontius.  Meyer says Alexandria will once again with the top in in Section 8AA and the Central Lakes Conference.

“As a team we will expect to fill in all events and be competitive in all facets of track and field,” stated Coach Meyer.  “Our goal will be to place in the top three for the true team meet and send multiple athletes to the state meet.  The incoming ninth grade group has been a nice increase in our numbers and many should be varsity contributors.  We have a nice group of upperclassmen that will mentor all the new faces on the team.”

Returning varsity athletes include seniors Owen Babolian (Sprints/Pole Vault), Owen Spain (Sprints/Jumps), Landon Thacker (Sprints/Pole Vault/Discus), Isaac Job (Sprints), Keisen Wick (Sprints), Jordan Lee (Sprints, Pole Vault), Conrad Lobb (Distance) and Luke Newman (Jumps), juniors Jordan Sitagata (Throws) and Alex Jensen (Throws), sophomores David Ronnevik (Distance), Logan Rott (Sprints), Layten Drouillard (Throws) and Shane Zierden (Jumps), freshmen Logan Bredenberg (Distance), Alex Burrows (Mid-Distance), Tommy Erickson (Mid-Distance), Jaden Miller (Distance) and Darius Lockett (Jumps), and eighth-grader Matthew Tuel (Distance).

“We had great performances from this group last year,” said Coach Meyer.  “Layten placed sixth in discus at the section meet, Jordan Lee was fourth in the pole vault at sections, and Alex Jensen qualified for the state meet and placed third at that level.”

Meyer is looking for senior Tristan George (Sprints/Jumps), sophomore Jaxon Zender-Severson (Sprints/Jumps), and freshmen Henry Bethel (Sprints/Jumps), Jack Welde (Mid-Distance, Jumps), Michael Schmidt (Mid-Distance/Pole Vault), Jack Anderson (Throws), Andy Kucera (Throws) and Kristian Fransen (Throws) to fill varsity events this spring.
