Derek Denny begins his fourteenth year leading the Parkers Prairie baseball team.  The Panthers were 9-12 a year ago and finished 5-9 in the tough Park Region Conference.  They have a young group of athletes competing for starting roles and varsity roster spots.

“We have many underclassmen that will be competing for spots,” noted Coach Denny.  “We plan to give several guys an opportunity to play at the varsity level.  Even though we are young, we should be solid, defensively.  We still have to focus on our hitting since we have several guys that will be new to varsity pitching.”

Seniors Cole Gesell (OF), Jake Wagner (OF/P) and Carter Thoennes (1B) will serve as team captains.  Other varsity returners include junior Chase Thieschafer (IF), and sophomores Dylan Debilzen (OF/P), David Revering (C/IF) and Zach Mrnak (1B).

Denny will be assisted by Mike Lorine and Andrew Johnson.  He says New York Mills and Wadena-Deer Creek are the PRC favorites, while New York Mills, Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, Upsala/Swanville Area and Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg are the top teams in Section 6A.
