The Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton softball team finished the regular season last year ranked number two in the Minnesota AA QRF ratings.  After a 1-2 record in their section tournament the finished as the number 8 team.  The Rebels have some unfinished business to tend to as they come off an outstanding 20-3 season and 11-1 Heart O’ Lakes Conference record.

DGF lost Taylor Aakre (CF), Jena Bjelland (P) and Sydney Spessard (3B) to graduation, however, they have a strong nucleus returning and some young players who will provide depth to the lineup in 2022.

Returning varsity starters include seniors Jordyn Nelson (LF), Mallory Leitner (P) and Evelyn Moe (SS), juniors Makayla Winter (CF) and Skylar Spessard (C), and freshmen Makayla Bjelland (3B) and Natalie Linman (1B/P).

Other players expected to battle for varsity roster spots are junior Kaleigh Peterson (RF), sophomore Lola Garrett (DH), and eighth-graders Ellie Boyd (C/IF), Greta Devries (OF), Alexis Froemke (OF), Katie Kittelson (3B/P) and Karlie Wagner (1B/P).

“Again we enter this season with high expectations,” said Head Coach Ron Drechsel.  “We return experience in our lineup at the key pitcher, catcher, and shortstop positions.  A group that will be led by dedicated senior captains Mallory Leitner, Evelyn Moe, and Jordyn Nelson.  Keys for our success will be to continue to play with passion and togetherness.  Also playing a key role will be junior catcher Skylar Spessard, junior outfielder Makayla Winter and freshman infielder Makayla Bjelland.  Look for newcomers Kaleigh Peterson, Natalie Linman and Lola Garrett to compete for playing time.  We expect to be competitive again in a very difficult conference and section.”

Coach Drechsel sees Barnesville, Hawley and DGF as the top teams in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference.  Tyler Drechsel will serve as assistant coach.
