The 2021 track and field season was one to remember for the Barnesville lady Trojans.  In addition to finishing first, as a team, in most of their regular season meets, they also finished first out of fifteen teams at the Section 6A True Team Track and Field Meet and sixth at the Minnesota State True Team Meet.  They were the Sub-Section 30 runners-up and the Section 8A champions, advancing 8 girls to the MSHSL Track and Field Meet.  “It was our most successful year, having improvement occur throughout the season with all of the girls accelerating to their full potential,” commented Head Coach Mike Schaub, now in his 16th season as Head Coach.  “They all exhibited good work ethic with solid performances.”

Gone from that team are state qualifiers Jordan Tschumperlin (high jump, triple jump) and Samantha Passa (triple jump, long jump, 4 x 100 meter relay).  Pole vaulter Kim Maesse was also lost to graduation.

Returning state qualifiers include Lindsey Rotz (800, 1600) and 4 x 100 meter relay members Emily Smith, Sydney Rustad, Anika Cossette, Mathea Joblonsky and Emma Rietz.

Emily Bredman (discus, shot put), Mathea Jablonsky (hurdles, relays), Sydney Rustad (sprints, jumps) and Emily Schoenecker (sprints, jumps, relays) are returning seniors for the lady Trojans.  They will also serve as team captains.

Juniors on the team are Mya Anderson (distance, relays), Rumely Biewer (discus, shot put), Kaitlyn Leverson (sprints, relays), Emma Rietz (sprints, relays) and Emily Smith (sprints, jumps, relays).

Sophomores include Kenady Christopherson (hurdles, jumps, relays), Kenadee Gray (pole vault, relays), Hadley Pearson (distance, jumps, relays), Olivia Power (hurdles, jumps, relays) and Lindsey Rotz (distance, relays).

Freshmen Tessa Aberle (sprints, relays), Jayden Camperud (discus, shot put), Ella Cossette (sprints, relays), Ava Follingstad (jumps, sprints, relays), Sophie Frederick (distance, relays) and Lexi Hoeft (sprints, jumps, discus, shot put, relays) will also be competing.

Rounding out the roster are eighth-graders Laila Berg, Anika Cossette, Shayna Erickson, Ashley Maneval, Ava Ness, Alexis Paul, Andreiana Russell, Camryn Schafer, and Allison Smith, and seventh-graders Jayla Amundson, Addyson Barnes, Rylee Bauer, Emmalyn Bergman, Alana Clark, Anna Davis, Isabella Follingstad, Josie McKay, Addyson Rasmussen, Morgan Schlauderaff, Makaya Stearns, Piper Thompson, and Bria Voxland.

“Returning letter winners are among the athletes to watch this year, in addition to a talented group of 7th and 8th graders,” stated Coach Schaub.  “Lindsey Rotz should have another good year as she advanced to the Minnesota State High School League Track and Field Meet in 2021 in the 800 and 1600 meter runs.  Sydney Rustad, Emily Smith, Anika Cossette, and Mathea Jablonsky are also girls to watch this year in the sprints and relays.  I had several girls attend camps at Concordia and NDSU to better their skills for competition.  I also look for our team to be strong in all areas, throwing, jumping, distance runing and sprinting.  We have a lot of depth and a team with a good work ethic, great dedications and a lot of talent.  We also have a lot of ambitious 7th and 8th graders looking to push the upperclassmen to compete to their fullest potential.”

Schaub, sees the lady Trojans as the favorites in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference, True Team Section 6A, Sub-Section 21, and Section 6A.

Assistant Coaches include Jake Schaub (Assistant Girls Coach, Long Jump, Triple Jump), Maizey Berg (Head Boys Coach, Shot Put, Discus), Nick Paur (Assistant Boys/Jr. High Coach, Shot Put, Discus, Pole Vault), Shawn Paschke (Volunteer Coach, Pole Vault), McKinzie Solum (Volunteer Coach, Hurdles), Chad Suter (Volunteer Coach, High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump), Carolin Rotz (Volunteer Coach (Distance, High Jump) and Peyton Selle (Volunteer Coach, Hurdles).
