The Spartan baseball team completed their Florida trip with a pair of losses to Oakton Community College on Wednesday in Auburndale, Florida.  The Spartans fell 7-4 and 23-9, finishing their six-game trip with a record of 2-4.

The Spartans pushed across a run in the top of the fifth inning of the first game to cut the Oakton lead to 2-1, however, Oakton then put 4 runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth and added a single run in the sixth to extend their lead to 7-1.  M State rallied for 3 in the top of the seventh, but came up short.  Mike Short knocked in a run for the Spartans.  They were led at the plate by Noah Aufdengarten with a pair of doubles and two runs scored.  Jackson Martin and Daniel Buendorf each added a two-base hit.  Cal Schmidt had a single in four trips and scored a run, and Ty Kargar went 1-for-3.

In the second game, Oakton capitalized on 17 walks by Spartan pitchers and added 10 hits.  They scored 6 runs in the top of the first, but M State responded with 5 in the bottom of the first inning.  Oakton took a 9-5 lead with 2 runs in the second and one more in the third, however, the Spartans put four runs on the board in the bottom of the third, tying the game at 9-9.  A nine-run fourth allowed Oakton to take a commanding 18-9 lead and they added five more in the sixth to close out the scoring.  Christian Norby (2-4, 2B, 2RBI, R), Daniel Buendorf (1-3, 2B, RBI, 2R), Mike Short (2-4, RBI, 2R) and Jackson Martin (1-3, RBI, R) led M State at the plate.

Hitting leaders for Oakton were Andrew Smart (2-3, 2B, HR, 4RBI, 4R), Keegan O’Connor (2-2, 2RBI, 2R), Taylor Bledsoe (1-3, 2RBI, 2R) and Darryl Lloyd III (1-3, 2RBI, R).
