The M State baseball team took home a 5-4 victory in game one of their Monday double header with Prairie State College.  Game two was owned by the Pioneers as they walked away with a 17-3 victory to gain a split.

The Spartans fell behind 1-0 in the second inning of the first game, but took the lead for good with three runs in the third.  One run scored when Isaiah Sykora was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.  Daniel Buendorf drove in two runs with a single.

Freshman right hander Brock Depute went 7 innings, allowing 4 earned runs on 9 hits.  He recorded 7 strikeouts and didn’t walk a batter.

Christian Norby and Daniel Buendorf each had a pair of singles.  Cal Schmitz and Mike Short each had a double.

The highlights in game two for M State included a home run by Short and a 2-for-2 performance at the plate by Sykora.

The Spartans were hurt on the base paths as Prairie State had three players with at least two steals.  A nine run fifth inning led the Pioneers to the win.

The Spartans will close out their Florida trip with a pair of games against Oakton Community College on Wednesday.
