The Perham boys’ basketball team had four players reach double figures in their 67-59 win over the Hawley Nuggets on Saturday.  The Yellowjackets will now face Pelican Rapids on Tuesday night at 7:45pm in Detroit Lakes in the Section 8AA semifinals.

Soren Anderson scored a team high 20 points and Micah Thompson finished with 15.  Alex Ohm and Jacob Daniels had 13 points apiece.  Anderson snagged a team high 6 rebounds, while Thompson, Ohm and Chas Melvin all had 3 assists.  Perham shot 69% (22-32) from the floor and hit 53% (8-15) of their three-pointers.  They were efficient on 82% (14-17) of their two-point attempts.

Hawley was led by Sam Senske with 24.  Hayden Grani added 12 and Brevin Stoa contributed 9 points.

“Our boys left it on the floor tonight, but it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback,” said Hawley Head Coach Nathan Stoa. “We couldn’t take advantage of their slow start to the second half, mix that with about 4 or 5 shots that rimmed out and it wasn’t the recipe for a comeback tonight.”

“This ends the Nugget basketball careers of six fantastic young men that I’ve been fortunate to see grow from elementary school,” noted Coach Stoa.  “Hayden Grani, Brady Gratton, Gavin Rodke, Bryant Carlisle, Bailey Thomson, and Carson Brew have been through a lot together and that growth showed in big ways throughout our season.  Personally, this group has helped me get through some of my own ups and downs and have always made practice a great place to be.  I am forever indebted to these young men and I hope that everyone they encounter gets to see them the way that the coaching staff gets too.”
