The second-seeded team in the South half of Section 6A, the Wheaton/Herman-Norcross Warriors, dominated the first half on Thursday night as they build a 41-13 halftime lead against Ortonville. The Warriors finished the night with a 69-33 victory over the Trojans.
“We came out right from the start and established our defensive pressure on them in the full court,” commented Wheaton/Herman-Norcross Assistant Coach Corey Spilde. “Our offense in the half court was a little sluggish, but we made up for it, getting to the foul line 23 times. Ellissa Rinke had a fantastic final home game, nearly getting a triple-double. She had 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists. Julia Schmidt shot the ball very well and scored 23 points, but also added 6 rebounds and 6 steals. Brylie Schultz followed her up with 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals. We now face a gritty CGB team who upset us last year in the playoffs. We look to play a great game, with hopes of moving on.”
Kelly Erickson led Ortonville with a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. She was joined in double figures by Kendall Gronholz with 12 points. Taylor Ross led the team with 3 assists.
