The Otter girls’ basketball team completed a season sweep of the Alexandria Cardinals and earned a share of the Central Lakes Conference championship with their 70-53 win on Monday night at the Alexandria Area High School. After trailing 29-27 at the half, the Otters outscored the Cardinals 41-26 over the final 18 minutes of play.
Ellie Colbeck nailed six 3’s on the way to a game high 27 points. She also had 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Tori Ratz made five 3-pointers and had 24 points, while dishing out 5 assists. Brynn Sternberg finished with 8 points, 4 rebounds and a pair of assists, Hannah Polejewski had 5 points, 7 boards and 4 assists, and Ainsley Hansen contributed 6 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists.
Fergus Falls made 13 3’s in the game and held a 33-19 advantage on the boards.
Ten of the 17 field goals made by the lady Cards came from behind the 3-point line. MaCee Linow scored 17 points to lead the home team. Hadley Thul and Chloe Scholl added 13 and 10 points, respectively.
“We got off to a slow start but about eight minutes in we started to defend a lot better,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Josh Steer. “This was a tough, gritty win over a very good team.”
Fergus Falls (20-5) earned the number one seed in the Section 8AA playoffs and will host Warroad at 6:00pm Thursday in their opening round game.
Alexandria (12-13) will open Section 8AAA play on Saturday at 7:00pm with a home game against a yet to be determined opponent.
