Otter Boys Score 10 Goals, Will Face Alexandria for 6A Title Thursday

Fergus Falls will face Alexandria on Thursday night at the MAC in St. Cloud for the Section 6A boys’ hockey title.  The Otters put 34 shots on the Northern Lakes net on Saturday night and ten of them found their mark as Fergus Falls posted a 10-5 victory.  The Otters notched 4 power play goals in 6 opportunities and had two players’ record hat tricks with Isaac Johnson scoring 4 goals and Carter Thielke adding 3.

Darby Boelter scored the games’ first goal at 10:38 of the opening period, giving Northern Lakes the early lead.  Jameson St. Clair and Andrew Villareal assisted on the goal.  Fergus Falls answered with 3 goals in less than two minutes to take a 3-1 lead after one period of play.  Thielke’s first goal at 14:19 was assisted by Michael DeBrito and Cole Zierden.  His second goal came at 16:07 from Landon Thacker.  Nine seconds later Cole Zierden scored from Isaac Johnson.

The Otters scored their first power play goal nineteen seconds into the second period when Isaac Johnson buried the puck off assists from Cole Zierden and Andrew Johnson.  Northern Lakes made it a 4-2 game when Zach Ehnstrom scored from Karter Lee at 4:38 of the period.  Thielke’s third goal of the night came on the power play at 6:20 with Colin Becker and Kellen Stenstrom assisting.  A pair of Tyler Seeling goals cut the Fergus Falls lead to 5-4.  His goal at 9:20 was setup by Christian Crucher and his goal at 10:54 was assisted by Taylor Berg and Boelter.  The Otters third power play goal came from Isaac Johnson at 12:24.  Cole Zierden picked up his third assist and fourth point of the night as the Otters built the lead to 6-4 after two periods.

Isaac Johnson netted a power play goal at 5:13 from Thacker and Stenstrom and an even strength goal at 10:15 of the third period, assisted by Cole Wentworth and Thielke.  Shane Zierden’s goal at 12:42 made the score 9-4.  He was assisted by DeBrito and Stenstrom.  Thielke and Isaac Johnson earned assists on Cole Zierden’s second goal of the game at 13:08 of the third.  Northern Lakes notched a power play goal at 15:20 when Seeling found the back of the net from Villareal and Colton Craig.

Ben Swanson came up with a total of 18 stops in the Fergus Falls net.

Top-seeded Alexandria advanced to the championship game with a dominant 10-2 win over Morrs-Benson.  They will face the Otters at 7:00pm Thursday with the winner claiming the Section 6A title and earning a berth into the Class A State Ice Hockey Tournament the following week.
