The Wheaton/Herman-Norcross girls’ basketball team led 29-18 at the half and held off a second half rally by Canby to record a 52-50 victory over the Lancers on Thursday night.

“Our girls came out a little flat, as we didn't touch a ball for almost a week due to weather,” said Warriors Assistant Coach Corey Spilde.  “We built an almost 20 point lead at one point in the second half, but Canby really came back from behind the arc to make the game close.  We lost our legs a bit, and I expected that.  We made some big shots and free-throws late in the game to seal the win.  This was a good game for us, in the sense that we found a way to keep the lead and win the game in the end.”

Julia Schmidt and Brylie Schultz led Wheaton/Herman-Norcross with 20 and 19 points, respectively.  Schmidt made 4-of-6 3’s and the Warriors shot 44% (7-16) as a team from beyond the arc.  Schultz completed her double-double by securing 12 rebounds and also had two blocked shots.  Megyn Kelly and Sadie Vipond dished out 4 assists.
