The West Central Area Knights moved to 17-4 on the season on Wednesday night in Barrett with a 63-52 win over a good Lac Qui Parle Valley (LQPV) team.  LQPV led 26-22 at the half, but in a second half that had a fast pace and a lot of possessions, the Knights defense wore down the Eagles and outscored them 41-26.

Knights Coach Kraig Hunter said, "This was a good win, mostly because we haven't had a real practice since last Thursday.  We have had a few Zoom virtual practices watching film and gave the kids some workouts to do at home over the most recent snowstorm, so they had to work to get back in rhythm.  It was a great defensive effort.  LQPV is a team that had some players out earlier in the year. When they are all healthy, they have size and shooters and I thought we really did a good job keeping track of shooters and contesting their 3's. We held them to 3-24 from 3-point land and we turned up the pressure as well, forcing 12 turnovers in the second half compared to only 3 in the first half."

The Knights made 21-52 shots from the field for 40%. The Eagles were 20-56 overall.  The Eagles were 9-13 from the free throw line and the Knights were 16-28.  The Knights had a dominant rebounding effort out rebounding the Eagles 43-30.

Hunter added, "It was a great rebounding effort. They only had four offensive rebounds all night and we didn't start out too hot from the free throw line but we made 14 of our last 18 free throws to seal the win.  Lastly, I thought Ryder Staples played a great all-around game tonight. He was drawing a lot of help and he distributed 5 assists on some nice passes, he also had a season high 12 rebounds, took a charge and was diving on the floor for balls."

Staples finished the night with 8 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists and  charge taken.  Cam Anderson had 21 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds and 3 steals. Cole Anderson had 16 points and 9 rebounds.  Jacob Strunk also helped clean up the defensive glass as he added 6 points and 11 rebounds and had 4 steals. Nas Dotts had 5 points and 4 steals, Mitch Dewey had 5 points and 2 steals, and Bryce Kjesbo had 2 points, 3 rebounds, and a steal.

"Nas sparked our defense in the second half. He can be very disruptive and our guys feed off of his defensive energy," said Hunter.

Leaders for the Eagles were Kayden Alpress 13 points, Landon Schirm 13, Hunter Conn 9, Kaden Molden 7, William Giese 6, and Blake Wollschlager 4.
