The M State women’s basketball team traveled to LaCrosse, Wisconsin for a makeup game on Monday night. After taking a 36-33 halftime lead the lady Spartans saw The Cavaliers of Western Tech take care of business in the second half as they came back to post an 86-69 win.
The lady Spartans had a pair of double-doubles as Jayna Gronewold scored 21 points and dished out 11 assists, and Emily Dehler finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Gronewold also had a team high 5 steals. Mackenzie Foss put together a solid floor game with 20 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. M State shot 35.4% (28-79) from the field and hit only 4-of-24 (16.7%) of their 3-point shots.
Emma Geiwitz registered a triple-double (24 points, 11 rebounds, 12 assists) to lead the Cavaliers. Kaylee Skibba finished with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists, while Aaliyah Bowman added 10 points and 8 rebounds. Emily Manske contributed 13 points and Becca Rostad chipped in with 9 points.
M State (9-16, 3-11 MCAC South) will travel to St. Cloud on Wednesday night and will close out their regular season schedule against Ridgewater on Saturday afternoon in Willmar.
The Cavaliers improved to 12-12 overall and 8-6 in MCAC Southern Division play.
