Lady Spartans Pull Away From Minnesota West with Strong 2nd Half

The M State lady Spartans and Minnesota West lady Bluejays were tied at 41-41 after the first half of their MCAC Southern Division contest on Wednesday night.  M State pulled away in the second half as they took a 66-54 lead after three quarters and finished with a 21-14 fourth quarter which led to an 87-68 victory.  It was only the second division loss in 11 games for the Lady Jays.

Six different players were in double figures for the lady Spartans, led by Jayna Gronewold's 21 points.  She also had 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals.  Brooke Hovland, Mackenzie Foss and Lydia Baker added 13 points apiece, Emily Dehler had 14 points and 14 rebounds, while dishing out 4 assists, and Lindsey Kurz contributed 11 points and 9 boards.

M State shot 47% (33-70) for the game and made 33.3% (6-18) of their three's.  They also made 15-of-19 free throws and held a 38-29 advantage on the boards.  The Spartans also had assists on 15 of their 33 made baskets.

Minnesota West shot 40.6% (26-64) from the field and 50% (6-12) on their 3's.  Tia Murray (22 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, 4 blocks) led the way for the Lady Jays.  Macie Werdel added 9 points off the bench and Madisyn Huisman chipped in with 8.

M State (9-12) will host Rochester in their final home game of the season on Saturday at 1:00pm.
