Ben Swanson set the Fergus Falls boys’ hockey all-time record for wins by a goalie with 36 when the Otters posted a 4-1 win over River Lakes on Tuesday night at the Community Arena.  The previous record of 35 was held by Drew Luhning.  Swanson stopped 21 of the 22 shots he faced in the win on Tuesday.  Fergus Falls put 37 shots on the River Lakes net.

Brayden Nelson’s goal at 6:27 of the first period gave the Otters the lead.  Cole Wentworth and Landon Thacker earned assists.

Carter Thielke scored a power play goal from Michael DeBrito and Isaac Johnson at 15:46 of the second period, making it a 2-0 lead for the Otters.

At 7:06 of the third period, Kellen Stenstrom gave the Otters a 3-0 lead with assists from Shane Zierden and Thielke.  Brady Blaschko notched the only River Lakes goal at 11:11 of the third, assisted by Blake Schultz and Jacob Philippi.  Isaac Johnson’s empty net goal at 16:50 was setup by Thielke and put the final score at 4-1.

“The guys had a nice win on senior night,” said Head Coach Mike Donaghue.  “It was an all-around team effort as they played a solid 51 minutes.  Our forwards were great on the forecheck, our defensemen had great gaps and made things tough through the neutral zone.  Our penalty killers did a great job pressuring the puck and the power play unit scored on their only chance of the night.”

Fergus Falls (15-7) will host Alexandria on Thursday night and will go to Thief River Falls for a 3:00pm game Saturday against the Prowlers.
