Lady Spartans Can't Overcome Slow Start in Austin

The M State lady Spartans got off to a slow start in Austin on Saturday afternoon as they fell behind 17-9 after one quarter and trailed 36-23 at the half.  The 13 point halftime deficit grew to 16 after three and Riverland outscored the lady Spartans 26-12 in the fourth quarter to take a 78-48 victory on their home floor.

M State shot 40% (18-45) from the floor, but made only 4-of-19 (21%) shots from beyond the arc.  They were led by Jayna Gronewold (14 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals), Emily Dehler (10 points, 11 rebounds, 3 steals) and Nyssa Vogel (9 points, 2 assists).

The lady Blue Devils made 46% (31-67) of their shots and hit 43% (12-28) of their 3’s.  Savannah Longhoma led them with 21 points, Cayli Miles had 19 and Imani Colon finished with 10.  Turena Schultz came off the bench to grab a team high 9 rebounds.  Miles led the team with 5 assists and 6 steals and Colon added 4 steals and 3 assists.  Camryn McQuery chipped in with 9 points, 7 boards, 2 assists and 2 steals.

M State (8-12) will host Minnesota West on Wednesday at 5:30pm in Fergus Falls.
