The Alexandria Cardinals Swimming and Diving Team finished out their regular season dual meet with a 120-65 win over St. Cloud Apollo to remain undefeated. This meet allowed many changes in the lineup heading into the championship part of the season. Being able to try different swimmers in different events adds a new perspective to these championship meets and also allows the swimmers to experience success in a variety of events.

The "normal" 200 medley relay of Nicolas Welle, Eric Peterson, Logan Tung, and Carter Holm switched what strokes they swam and still swam faster than the state qualifying time. Welle usually swims butterfly, but swam backstroke, Peterson usually swims backstroke but swam freestyle, Tung usually swims breaststroke but swam butterfly, and Holm usually swims freestyle but swam breaststroke. The team of Mark Meece, Coltan Koehn, Cooper Running, and Erik Reineke finished in third and Andrew Crowser, Joel Brault, Andrew Johnson, and Cayden Abell finished in fourth place. Carter Holm won the 200 freestyle, followed by Tung in second. Welle won the 200 IM with Eric Peterson in second. Anthony Hoyt, usually a distance swimmer, won the 50 freestyle spring, followed by Zachary Timm in fourth. Caden Kevanagh won the diving competition, followed by Kyler Kavanagh in second and Keaton Snitker in third. Erik Reineke and Cooper Running qualified for the section meet in the 100 butterfly, followed by Andrew Johnson in fifth. Carter Holm won the 100 freestyle to start the sweep of the top three places, followed by Anthony Hoyt and Eric Peterson. Luke Christenson, an eighth grader, won his first varsity event in the 500 freestyle, followed by Aaron Crowser in second and Joel Brault in third. The 200 freestyle relay team of Welle, Tung, Reineke, and Hoyt easily won the event. Mark Meece placed third in the 100 backstroke, followed by Andy Wacek and Gavin Peterson. Cayden Abell qualified for the section meet in the event. The sweep in the 100 breaststroke led by Logan Tung, included a second place from Welle and a third from Cooper Running. The 400 freestyle relay team of Zachary Timm, Eric Peterson, Anthony Hoyt, and Carter Holm won the event by 10 seconds.

Next up for the team is the Central Lakes Conference Meet at St. Cloud Tech on Saturday, February 12. Diving is at 10:00 AM and swimming is at 2:00 PM.
