Otter Nordic Ski Team Competes in Central Lakes Conference Championships
The Fergus Otter Nordic ski team had a very successful day at the Central Lakes Conference meet Tuesday. Teams in attendance were Brainerd, St. Cloud Apollo, Sartell/Cathedral, Alexandria, Willmar, and Fergus Falls. Willmar hosted this year's meet at the Eagle Creek Golf Course. "All the skiers on every team are extremely hardy and resilient," stated Fergus Falls Head Coach Joshua Scharnberg. "Skiers faced not only fierce competition but also stiff north winds gusting over 40mph at times and cold temperatures."
The boys took 2nd place with Brainerd taking first. Scoring for the Fergus Falls boys were: David Ronnevik, Luke Schroeder, Oliver Thorson, Jackson Lysne, Nicholas Flugstad and Micah Mouser.
David Ronnevik and Luke Schroeder placed third in the sprint relay and earned honorable mention. Nick Flugstad placed 9th and Jackson Lysne placed 7th in the 5k classic race, both earning honorable mention. Micah Mouser placed 10th and Oliver Thorson placed 5th in the 5k skate race. Micah earned honorable mention and Oliver earned all-conference.

While JV results do not count for conference awards, there are a few impressive results to mention: The boys JV placed 3rd with Jaden Miller, Noah Schlosser, Reno Schierer and Clayton Peppel all scoring. Noah Schlosser placed 8th in a field of 47 skiers in the skate 5k. Bryce Adams placed 10th, Reno Schierer placed 9th and Jaden Miller placed 5th in the 5k classic.
The girls JV team also placed third with Violet McConn, Alexis Bredenberg, Abigail Johnson and Cassie Wellman scoring for the Otters. Violet McConn placed 8th in the 5k classic race. Finally, Ali Bredenberg placed 10th overall in a field of 41 skiers for the 5k skate race.
"We are extremely proud of our athletes," added Coach Scharnberg. "They worked very hard and are showing a ton of promise as we come into next week's section 8 meet at Maplelag Resort on Tuesday and Wednesday."

The girls team took 4th place overall. Scoring for the girls were: Annie Mayer, Alexis Wellman, Estee Versteeg, Sarah Grotberg, Ahlea Mouser and Olivia Swanson.
Estee VerSteeg placed 10th in the girls 5k classic race and earned Honorable Mention All-Conference.
