The Alexandria Cardinals took it to the Little Falls Flyers Monday night at the Runestone Community Center by a feat of 5 to 1. This game was a redemption game from earlier this season where the Flyers came back from two 5 goal deficit marks to beat the Cardinals 7-6 in overtime. The message was clear from the Cardinals early that proving the first go around between the two clubs did not sit well with them.

The message was clear from the Cardinals early that proving the first go around between the two clubs did not sit well with them. Senior Brycen Berg got the Cardinals going in the first period off a 2 vs 1 feed from Senior Josiah Gronholz. Later in the first period it was Gronholz scoring off a rush from the neutral zone beating the Flyers goaltender on the glove side. The Cards ended the first period up 2-0 and leading the shots 10-9.

Junior Nick Peterson made it 3-0 off a breakaway goal from a nice pass by Junior Tyler Kludt just 4 minutes into the second period. Some penalty trouble for the Cardinals challenged their penalty killers to get the job done and they were able to kill off 4 Flyer power plays in the remaining minutes. With just 4 seconds left in the period the Flyers were able to get on the board, cutting into the lead.

In the third period it was Senior Brycen Berg scoring is 2nd and 3rd goal of the game to complete the hat trick. Both goals similar in nature had Berg flying down the outside and firing a wrist shot past the Flyers goaltender. Tyler Kludt assisted on both goals. Senior goaltender Teagan Pfeffer made the start for the Cardinals and was rock solid, stopping 35 of 36 shots on net.

The Cardinals will enjoy a little break this week with their next game coming on Saturday, February 5th up in Duluth against Denfeld. JV starts at 12:00 pm and Varsity at 2:00 pm.
