Spuds Score 5 Straight Goals to Top Otter Girls 5-2

After falling behind 2-0 in the first period the Moorhead girls’ hockey team scored five straight goals to record a 5-2 win over the Fergus Falls Otters on Monday night.

A power play goal by Marilyn Karsnia, assisted by Maddie Hulter 1:22 into the game gave the Otters a 1-0 lead.  Hulter’s unassisted tally at 5:26 made it 2-0.

Ella Holm assisted on both second period goals by the Spuds as Bria Holm scored thirty seconds in and Addison Salvevold tied the game at 8:03.

A power play goal by Bria Holm at 6:33 of the third period was assisted by Olivia Kortan and Olivia Dronen.  Dronen and Taylor Brueske assisted on a goal by Ella Holm at 7:10 and Kortan finished the night with an unassisted goal with 1:18 remaining in the game.

Ana Jyrkas stopped 27 Moorhead shots and Fergus Falls had 26 shots on goal.

“Hats off to Moorhead, that’s really a good hockey team,” stated Fergus Falls Head Coach Tim Lill.  “Tonight was a great test that exposed our weaknesses.  We will use it as a learning experience and get ready for Willmar.”

Fergus Falls (16-4-2) will host Willmar on Thursday and play at Prairie Center on Friday night.
