The West Central Area girls’ basketball team shot 56% (27-48) from the floor, made 35% (7-20) of their 3-pointers and converted 20-of-28 free throw attempts in their 72-64 win in Hancock on Tuesday night. It was the Owls first loss of the season after 13 straight wins. Hancock struggled with their shooting, making only 36.5% (19-52) of their field goal attempts in the game. The Owls led 35-33 at the half.
With the Knights trailing by two at halftime they came out and gained a quick 4 point lead, but it was short-lived. The Owls built an 8 point lead with 6 minutes to play. WCA tied the game with two-and-a-half minutes to play. They finished the game on a 13-4 run to pull out the win.
Lexi Bright (27 points, 12 assists, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, 1 block) turned in a solid all-around game to lead the lady Knights. Claire Stark was also in double figures with 13. She also had 5 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. Macy Grosz and Mya Foslien added 10 points each. Foslien also had 4 assists. Addison Staples added 8 points and 7 rebounds.
Carlee Hanson buried five 3’s for the Owls and had 18 points and 6 steals. Karleigh Rohloff led Hancock with 19 points, while adding 4 assists. Kaitlyn Rohloff finished with 15 points and Tori Pahl had a team high 10 rebounds. Kaitlyn Staples was the assist leader with 5.
West Central Area (9-3) will travel to Wheaton on Friday night to face Wheaton/Herman-Norcross.
Hancock (13-1) will now play Renville County West on Saturday at Target Center.
