The M State lady Spartans traveled to Worthington for a makeup game on Monday night. M State led 29-22 at the half and increased their lead to 52-44 after three quarters, however, the lady Bluejays came back strong in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 71-71, forcing overtime. Minnesota West outscored the lady Spartans 13-10 in the extra period to post an 84-81 win.
Jayna Gronewold had a huge night with 33 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals to lead M State. Emily Dehler was a beast on the boards, grabbing 20 rebounds and finishing with a double-double as she added 11 points. Nyssa Vogel added 13 points and 3 assists, and Mackenzie Foss had 10 points, 4 steals and 3 assists. Lindsey Kurz contributed 9 points and 9 rebounds.
“We had a chance to seal the deal with two free throws with four seconds left,” reported Head Coach Jodi Holleman of the lady Spartans. "We made 1-of-2 to send it into OT. The girls played with a ton of heart and hustle.”
Minnesota West was led by a double-double (21 points, 14 rebounds) from Dannyn Peterson. MacKensie Post had 14 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals, and Macie Werdel finished with 10 points. Tia Murray scored 9 points and pulled down 8 rebounds.
M State is now 7-7 on the year. They will host Ridgewater on Wednesday night.
