Vikings Rally From Behind to Beat Spartan Men

The M State Men's Basketball team held a 61-44 lead with just over nine minutes to play in their game with Itasca on Thursday night, however, the Vikings turned that deficit into a 9-point lead with three minutes to play and wound up outscoring the Spartans 63-40 over the last nine minutes to post a 107-101 victory in Fergus Falls.

Jerome Washington ignited the second half rally for Itasca by scoring all 16 of his points in the half.  Nick Grant added 13 second half points and Jack Tong contributed a dozen.  Tong finished with 20 and Grand with 19 in the game.  Maleec Sellner added 19 and point guard Rycen Ladmay-Yamada turned in a solid all-around performance, scoring 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting, pulling down 9 rebounds and distributing 7 assists, both team highs in the game.

M State made 10 of their 15 3's in the first half, but cooled off considerably from  long range in the second half.  They were led by Mert Taylor with 22 points, Brett Engelmeyer with 21, Nic Pearson with 20, Renell Edwards with 17 and Tyler Loe with 10.  Edwards also had 12 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals.  Pearson dished out 5 assists.

The Spartans (5-7) will travel to Anoka for their conference opener against the Golden Rams on Wednesday night.
