The Fergus Falls girls’ basketball team suffered a heart breaking 63-62 loss at Brainerd on Tuesday night. The Otters were missing a pair of starters, Tori Ratz and Brynn Sternberg, due to illness. Ellie Colbeck had a near record setting performance as she poured in 42 points, 3 shy of Bailey Strand’s record 45. She also snared 9 rebounds and had 2 assists. Colbeck hit six 3’s in the game and was 5-for-6 from the foul line.
Karley Braeger scored 9 points and pulled down 5 rebounds, Hannah Polejewski had 5 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists, and Ainsley Hansen secured 7 rebounds and dished out 4 assists.
“I’m really proud of the effort tonight,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Josh Steer. “Some girls got an opportunity because we were shorthanded tonight. We had a chance to win it but came up short. This was a great learning experience for us.”
The Warriors were led by Megan Smith with 20 points. Olivia Tautges had 15 points and 9 rebounds, and Myah Nelson had 11 points and 3 assists.
Fergus Falls (5-2) will host their Holiday Tournament on Tuesday, December 28 and Wednesday, December 29.
