Alexandria Swimmers and Divers Impress in First Dual Meet

The Alexandria Cardinals Swimming and Diving exploded out of the gate in their first dual meet of the season, garnering 12 first places out of 14 events. The final score of the meet was Alexandria with 111 points and Sauk Rapids/Rice with 74.

Swimming faster that the state swim meet qualifying times were: Nicolas Welle in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly, Carter Holm in the 100 freestyle, Anthony Hoyt in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, the 200 medley relay team of Eric Peterson, Logan Tung, Nicolas Welle, and Erik Reineke, and the 200 freestyle relay team of Nicolas Welle, Logan Tung, Anthony Hoyt, and Carter Holm. Pacing the leaders, the underclassmen added much needed depth to balance the speed at the top of the lineup.

The winning 200 medley relay team started the meet with time two and a half seconds faster that the state qualifying time. Winning the 200 freestyle by 13 seconds was Anthony Hoyt, followed by freshman Cooper Running. Eli Biggers finished in fifth place. Carter Holm placed second in the 200 IM with Logan Tung in third. Nicolas Welle won the 50 freestyle by over a second, followed by Erik Reineke in fourth. Kyler Kavanagh won the diving competition with Caden Kavanagh in a close second place. Keaton Snitker finished the sweep with a third place. Nicolas Welle led the charge in the 100 butterfly with Eric Peterson close behind in second place. Mark Meece finished in fifth place. Carter Holm owned the pool in the 100 freestyle with Erik Reineke in fourth place. Anthony Hoyt finished in second place in the 500 freestyle, with Cooper Running in third and Eli Biggers in fifth place. The 200 freestyle relay easily won and the relay team of Zach Timm, Andrew Johnson, Andy Wacek and Cooper Running placed third. The 100 backstroke was won by sophomore Eric Peterson, with Mark Meece in third and Andrew Crowser in fourth. Logan Tung cruised to an easy win in the 100 breaststroke. Alexandria finished the night with a win in the 400 freestyle relay with the team of Erik Reineke, Eric Peterson, Anthony Hoyt and Carter Holm.

Next up for the Cardinals is an away meet at Fergus Falls on Tuesday at 6:00 PM.
