The Fergus Falls boys’ hockey team fell behind 2-0 after the first period against Rochester Century on Friday night, however, the Otters scored four straight second period goals to take a 4-2 lead after two and then tacked on a pair of third period goals for a 6-2 win.

“We made a couple of line adjustments after the first period that worked out for us,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Mike Donaghue

Cole Zierden scored early in the second period to cut the lead to 2-1 and Isaac Johnson tied it five minutes later.  Carter Thielke scored on the power play to put the Otters in front, 3-2.

“Century was creating a lot of pressure and we weathered the storm,” said Donaghue.  “Isaac finished the scoring in the second period with 13 seconds remaining to give us a two goal lead.  That was a big goal!”

In the third period Thielke scored on a beautiful passing play from Michael DeBrito and Isaac Johnson where they found Carter in the high slot and he was able to finish the play.  Zierden scored his second goal of the night on a breakaway after a great blocked shot from DeBrito.  Zierden was able to poke the puck off the stick of a defenseman and beat the goalie with a deke.

Ben Swanson finished the night with 22 saves in the Otter net.

Fergus Falls won the JV contest 3-1 with Bo Bring, Griffin Babolian and Wyatt Briese scoring.  Brady Metcalf and Tim Nanson split the time in the net for the win.

The Otters (6-1) will play at Owatonna at two o’clock Saturday afternoon.
