Spartan Men Drop to 5-5 with 18 Point Loss to Raiders

The Spartan Men played the host team, Central Lakes Community College, on the first day of competition in the Central Lakes Classic in Brainerd on Friday.  The Raiders led 44-38 at the half and went on to record a 93-75 victory. 

Nic Pearson scored 20 points, Langston Davis had 17 and Renell Edwards added 15 to lead the offensive effort.  Brett Engelmeyer contributed 11 points off the bench.  Larrie Bell led the team with 13 rebounds, Edwards grabbed 8 and Davis 7.  Edwards had a team high 8 assists.

M State made only 33.3% (27-81) of their field goal attempts and Central Lakes dominated the rebounding chart 59-36.

The Raiders made 45.6% (41-90) of their shots and were led by Quamar Gresham’s 34 point effort.  Derek Aeilts came off the bench to score 19 and Jalen Dearring was also in double figures with 16 points.  Rebounding leaders were Zaa Buffalo and David Felix with 13 and 10, respectively.  Josh Lewis had a team high 8 assists and Buffalo distributed 6 assists.  Gresham led the team with 5 steals and Buffalo had 3.

The loss puts the Spartans record at 5-5 heading into day two of the Classic and a 2:00pm tip-off against Rainy River Community College.
