Fergus Falls killed off six power play opportunities, four of them in the third period, on the way to a 4-2 win in Willmar on Thursday night.  Goalie Ana Jyrkas stopped 19 of 21 shots she faced and the Otters put 24 pucks on the Willmar net.

Maddie (Kid) Hulter had a career night burying 2, one of ‘em a shorty, and killed penalties the entire third period,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Tim Lill.  “All three lines contributed and Jyrkas was an absolute beast on the 5-on-3 kills.”

Following a scoreless first period the Otters scored 3:55 into period number two when Marilyn Karsnia found the back of the net with assists from Lizzy Moxness and Desirae Maack.  Hulter made it 2-0 at 16:25 with an assist from Piper Andrews.  With just two seconds left in the period Kessa Mara beat Jyrkas for the first Cardinal goal, assisted by Nina Dawson.

Hulter’s second goal of the game, a shorthanded score at 5:09 of the third period, was unassisted.  Andrews gave the Otters a 4-1 cushion at 7:16 with assists from Tyra Skjeret and Hope Goepferd.  Dawson’s unassisted tally at 7:51 ended the scoring on the night.

The win was the seventh in a row for Fergus Falls.  The Otters improved to 8-1 on the season and will host Bemidji at 4:00pm Saturday.
