The Fergus Falls girls’ hockey team traveled to Sartell for a Central Lakes Conference contest on Thursday night.  The Otters led 2-1 after one period, 4-1 after two periods and won the game 5-2.  Ana Jyrkas had 28 saves on 30 shots and the Otters put 28 shots on the Stormin’ Sabres net.

“Our best overall effort of the season,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Tim Lill.  “Sartell was very hard to play against, per usual.  The line of Lizzy Moxness, Desi Maack and Talia Nelson were like playing against lake chiggers, annoying and wouldn’t go away.  Super proud of the grit we showed tonight.”

Maddie Hulter’s power play goal at 2:07 of the first period was setup by Gabby Brimhall.  Sartell-Sauk Rapids pulled even with an unassisted goal from Kelly Carriere at 4:35, however, an unassisted tally by Hulter at 6:27 put the Otters ahead 2-1 at the end of the first period.

Lizzy Moxness scored from Brook Zierden at 5:05 of the second period and an unassisted goal by Piper Andrews at 12:08 gave the Otters a 4-1 lead after two periods.

The Stormin’ Sabres cut the lead to 4-2 with a goal by Brooke Pogatchnik, assisted by Tia Vogt at 7:18 of the third period.  Ella Starzl scored the final goal of the night at 15:25 with an assist from Andrews.

Fergus Falls (7-1) has now won six straight games.  Their next game is at Willmar next Thursday.
