Sartell/Sauk Rapids Hands Wahp-Breck Girls 7-2 Setback

Sartell/Sauk Rapids got off to a fast start at the MAC in St. Cloud on Saturday as they scored three first period goals on the way to a 7-2 victory over the Breckenridge/Wahpeton Blades in high school girls’ hockey.  Sartell/Sauk Rapids had a 38-24 advantage in shots on goal in the contest.

The Stormin’ Sabres got on the board at the 6:45 mark of the first period with an unassisted goal from Kelly Carriere.  At 14:44 Erika Johnson scored from Olivia Schlecht and at 15:47 Brooke Pogatchnik was assisted by Brayley VanDenBerg.

Sartell/Sauk Rapids made it 4-0 just 30 seconds into the second period when Pogatchnik scored from Carriere and VanDenBerg.  Breck-Wahp got their first goal at 13:59 when Reagan Wohlers scored unassisted on the power play.

VanDenBerg’s goal at 5:24 was assisted by Pogatchnik and Carriere and gave Sartell/Sauk Rapids a 5-1 lead.  The Blades cut it to 5-2 on a goal by Alison Hoerer, assisted by Ashlyn Wohlers and Addie Rugland.  The final two goals came from the Stormin’ Sabres with Peyton Sabart scoring from Carriere at 16:07 and Chloe Reiter scoring from Johnson at 16:57.

Kolle Schuler took the loss in the net, stopping 31-of-38 shots on goal.  Morgan Dorn made 22 saves on 24 shots to earn the win.
