The Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale/Parkers Prairie Raiders lost ten seniors last season and is looking to rebuild their perennial powerhouse wrestling team.  They are not starting from scratch as they are returning seven wrestlers with a great deal of experience, including six section place winners.

“If we fill in with junior varsity wrestlers and stay healthy, we should have a good season,” commented Head Coach Bill Wagner.  “The team hopes to make a strong challenge to defend their Section 6A dual meet honors.”

Key leaders on the mat should include sophomore David Revering (38-7), junior Deagen Captain (26-9), senior Gideon Ervasti (26-7), junior Bennet Arceneau (24-12) and senior Reese Thompson (24-12).

“The expectations for the guys that have a lot of mat time are high,” acknowledged Coach Wagner.  “Conference and Section opponents will be strong, however, WCA, New York Mills and Border West are the strongest and will be a challenge to defeat.  Our team goal at present is to build upon the nucleus we have with the motto ‘it’s not about doing more, do what you do BETTER’!”

Joining the aforementioned wrestlers as returning letter winners are Blake Sumstad (JR), Justin Koehn (JR), Abby Ervasti (SO), Holden Truax (SO), Gauge Malone (SR), Evan Jares (FR) and Justin Olson (JR HIGH).

Junior Colin Moller, sophomore Isaac Grabow, freshmen Cayden Kimber, Braden Shamp, Hunter Strom, Orran Hart and Tanner Schulke and junior high wrestlers Wyatt Jares, Tristan Hubbling, Preston Captain, Hudson Truax, Adam Grabow, Gage Barthel, Ruger Oyster, Colby Schlosser, Tim Hinman, Lincoln Finck, Nikolai Hagen, David Veronen, Micah Stanley and Carson Stanford round out the roster.
