Dave Cresap has been leading the Perham Yellowjackets for 37 years and he shows no signs of slowing down!  Perham won the Heart O’ Lakes Conference championship and finished as runners-up in Section 8AA a year ago.  Having lost seven players to graduation, the Yellowjackets will have a bit of a different look on the court.

Gone are Finn Diggins (NDSU - Football), Elijah Morris (Concordia - Basketball), Grant McMartin, Gabe Thompson (Concordia-Track), Carson Hespe (MSUM-Cross Country), Caden Schossow and Andrew Smith.

Senior Marcus Belka (Guard) is the only returning starter.  Letter winners returning include seniors Chas Melvin, Josh Peterson, Mikey Schwantz, Austin Aanenson and Levi Richter, and juniors Micah Thompson, Soren Anderson, Jacob Daniels and Noah Thompson.

Juniors Alex Ohm, Michael Anderson and Evan Kovash, along with sophomores Gage Aanenson, Blaiz Schmidt, Brandon Sandberg and Noah Novotny will be battling for varsity court time.

“We have a nice bunch of players returning, but we don’t have much varsity experience,” reported Coach Cresap.  “I think as we gain varsity experience, we could be a pretty nice team come playoff time.  We should shoot the ball pretty well and we should be a good defensive team.  Size will be something we have to overcome.  Our ability to play together and accept roles will play a big part in our success.  We need players to sacrifice things for the sake of the team’s success.  Numbers in our program will be very good, which is great to see kids participating.”

Cresap says DGF, Barnesville and Hawley should be the favorites in the HOL, with Pelican Rapids also in the mix.  As for Section 8AA he sees Fergus Falls as the favorite, but DGF, Hawley, Barnesville, Thief River Falls and Warroad should all be in contention.
