The Henning boys’ basketball team has reason for optimism as they enter the 2021-22 season.  The Hornets were 16-6 overall and second in the Park Region Conference with a record of 9-4 a year ago, competing with a team that had very little varsity experience.  “We have some nice things to build upon moving forward,” noted Head coach Randy Misegades, in his 17th year.  “Most of our guys got their first taste of varsity last season and we look to take another step forward this year.”

The Hornets return three starters and PRC all-conference players in Tanner Arndt (SR, Point Guard), Mason Hammer (JR, Forward) and Tyson Misegades (JR, Guard).

Calvin Stueve (SR, Guard) will be expected to start for our team and step into a big role this season,” added Coach Misegades.  “Kale Misegades (8th Grade, Guard) gained some valuable experience last season and he will be a prominent part of the mix.  Riley Bode (JR, Guard) is a key contributor as well and will get an opportunity to earn playing time, along with another junior, Keegan Shaw.  We also get Carter Dilly (JR, Forward) back this season after he missed all of last year with an injury.”

The Hornets also have a number of talented underclassmen in sophomores Lane Dilly (Forward) and Carter Kenyon, along with freshmen Eli Reinbold, Noah Umland and Dawson Misegades.

According to Coach Misegades, New York Mills is the clear favorite in the PRC, but, “Verndale has a loaded senior class and will be a tough team as well.  Section 6A is once again one of the best sections in the state.  New York Mills, Ashby, and Hancock will all be really good, and newcomers BBE and Breckenridge only add to the depth of the section.”

Misegades will be assisted by Mark Oscarson and Ryan Emter (Junior High).
