The Wadena-Deer Creek girls’ basketball team was 8-11 a year ago, finishing 6-8 in the Park Region Conference.  The Wolverines lost only one starter to graduation and are poised to make some noise in both the conference and section races this season.

“We have a good amount of experience coming back on this year’s team,” said Head Coach Jordan Cresap.  “We will have a good mix of upperclassmen leadership and young players looking to earn a role on the varsity.  With a bolstered schedule, we are looking to stay competitive night in and night out.  In order to do so, we will need to find some more scorers and playmakers, we will need to rebound the ball well, and we will need to take better care of the ball.”

Seniors Lauryn Gravelle and Madison Packer, and junior Madison Carsten, will serve as team captains.  They are joined by seniors Corra Endres and Summer Pettit, and freshman Montana Carsten as returning starters.  Juniors Ally Pavek and Mercedes Schulz, freshmen Addyson Gravelle and Jenna Dykhoff, and seventh-grader Payton Gravelle are all trying to earn varsity playing time.

Cresap will be assisted by Wendy Gravelle (JV), Jordan Anderson (C Team) and Jessica VanHavermaet (Varsity Assistant).  He sees Menahga, New York Mills, Henning and Pillager as the teams to beat in the Park Region Conference, with Fergus Falls, Crookston, Barnesville and Hawley the top teams in Section 8AA.
