Eagles Dominate Cowboys to Win Section 6A Championship

New York Mills dominated Breckenridge in the Section 6A championship football game on Friday at the Fargodome, advancing to the Class A State quarterfinals with a convincing 32-0 victory over the Cowboys. 

The Eagles led 6-0 at the end of the first quarter as Bren Salo scored on a one yard run to cap a 55 yard scoring drive with 4:40 left in the opening quarter.

Salo’s second touchdown came on an 11 yard run with four minutes left in the first half, handing the Eagles a 14-0 lead.  With 54 seconds remaining Salo connected with Jonah Johnson on a 41 yard TD pass and the Eagles led 18-0 at halftime.

With 8:05 left in the third quarter Salo scored on an 18 yard run and Brayden Ehnert added the extra-point kick for a 25-0 lead.  Monte Briard closed out the score with 4:14 left in the third with a 66 yard run.  Ehnert’s extra-point kick completed the scoring at 32-0.

New York Mills will now face Section 7A champion Deer River in a state quarterfinal matchup on Thursday at 7:00pm in Brainerd.
