Ahmed Becomes Career Leader in Goals as Vikings Blank Comets 3-0

Mohamed Ahmed became the all-time leader in career goals for the Pelican Rapids boys’ soccer team as he scored twice on Saturday afternoon to lift the Vikings to a 3-0 win over the Hillcrest Comets at Danielson Field in Fergus Falls.  The two goals give Ahmed 30 career goals.

The Viking goals came early and late in the contest.  At 5 minutes, A Viking corner kick from Jesus Moreno ended up in the back of the Comet net, off the head of Mohamed Ahmed.  The final two Viking goals of the game came at 75 and 76 minutes, one resulting from an own goal by the Comets,

“Other than a couple of mental mistakes, our team played hard and aggressive throughout the game,” commented Hillcrest Head Coach Rod Jensen.  “I was pleased that our team defense was able to stop the Viking forward attacks that gave us problems in our last outing, a week ago.  Our offense was able to create several scoring opportunities and the game was much closer than the score revealed, I believe.”

In JV action the Comets won 3-0, with Matt Knutson scoring twice along with one goal by Zane HolmquistDrew Fischer contributed a couple nice assists in the game.

The Comets now 9-3-1, take on the Detroit Lakes Lakers on Thursday at home.

Pelican Rapids improves to 7-4 on the season.  They will host Moorhead on Monday and Detroit Lakes on Tuesday.
