The Brandon-Evansville Chargers and Ortonville Trojans were tied at 32-32 after a high scoring first half of high school football on Friday night, however, the Chargers ramped up their defensive play in the second half as they didn’t allow any further scoring for the Trojans in a 52-32 victory.

Ortonville took an early 12-0 lead with a 57 yard touchdown run by Nate Gustafson with 10:30 to play in the first quarter and a 5 yard run to the end zone by Daunte Fetters three minutes later.  At the four minute mark Titus Fuller ran 17 yards for the first B-E score of the night and a two-point conversion run by Tyler Bitzan cut the Ortonville lead to 12-8.  The Trojans increased their advantage to 18-8 when quarterback Carter Brown plunged in from a yard out with just 1:30 to play in the quarter.

Fuller scored his second TD of the night thirty seconds into the second quarter when he carried the ball over the goal line from 3 yards out.  Bitzan again scored the two-point conversion as the Chargers pulled to within two at 18-16.  Ortonville upped their lead to 26-16 with 11 minutes remaining in the half on a 65 yard run by Fetters and a two-point conversion pass from Brown to Zander Campbell.  Fuller’s third TD of the game came with 5:30 remaining in the second quarter on a 16 yard run and Bitzan’s two-point conversion run made it a 26-24 game.  Fetters reached the end zone on a 23 yard run with 3:30 left and B-E pulled even with a 14 yard run by Fuller and his two-point conversion run, putting the halftime score at 32-32.

Brandon-Evansville took their first lead on the opening kick-off of the second half when Ryland Yeats went 74 yards on the return for a 38-32 B-E lead.  Bitzan’s 18 yard TD run with four minutes left in the third quarter increased the Chargers lead to 44-32 and with 11:15 left in the game Bitzan scored from 9 yards out.  Fuller hit John Roers with the two-point conversion pass for a 52-32 Chargers advantage.

"A wild first half of football that's for sure,” said Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Tim Pattrin.  “We did not execute the defensive game plan well and we need to do our jobs to function as a unit.  Offensively we did a nice job all night.  Our line blocked well and our backs ran hard and were tough to tackle.  We now get a home game for the first time in over a month so we are excited to get back to our field for Homecoming."

Both teams racked up the offense as B-E had 389 total yards and Ortonville had 409.  The Chargers ground game compiled 282 yards, led by Bitzan with 148 yards on 23 carries and Fuller with 107 yards on 14 carries.  Fuller also was 9-for-10 passing the football for 107 yards.  Carter White (2 receptions, 49 yards), Bitzan (3 receptions, 21 yards) and Dezmond White (2 receptions, 16 yards) were the leading receivers for the Chargers.  Defensively, Logan Haburn was in on 10 tackles and Roers made 9.  Dezmond White and Ethan Allen combined on a sack.

Ortonville ran for 395 yards with Fetters gaining 242 yards on 21 attempts.  Gustafson finished with 76 yards on 6 carries and caught the only completion of the night for the Trojans, for 14 yards.

Brandon-Evansville is now 2-3 on the season.  They will host Rothsay (0-5) on Friday night in Brandon.

Ortonville will take their 2-3 record up against unbeaten Hancock (5-0) in a road game on Friday.
