The West Central Area volleyball team hosted Wheaton/Herman-Norcross in the Knights homecoming game on Thursday night.  The Warriors came out on top in a 4 set match, 19-25, 25-21, 28-26, 25-22.

Stat leaders for the Warriors were Brylie Schultz (17 kills, 3 blocks, 2 aces, 15/18 serving), Kyah Thomas (22 digs, 18/18 serving, 2 aces, 6 kills), Ellissa Rinke (11 kills, 4 blocks, 18/19 serving, 2 aces, 18 digs), Avah Sykora (12 digs, 13/13 serving, 1 ace), Lesley Rinke (16/16 serving, 11 digs), Zaundra Determan (7 kills, 2 blocks) and Emily Berger (10/12 serving, 6 digs).

“So many good things happened in this match,” shared Wheaton/Herman-Norcross Head Coach Ann Dreke.  “I am incredibly proud of how well the girls played together and how they supported each other throughout the game.”

The Warriors head to Underwood for their next match on Monday night.

“The gym was packed for the Knights tonight, and the energy was high,” said WCA Head Coach Missy Foslien. “The Knights started the first set with a seven point serving run by Whitney Westrom.  Then Macy Grosz picked up from there and served six straight.  The Knights seemed to lose momentum for a stretch as the Warriors also got on a serving streak. Elizabeth Rustan had 5 kills, and some big blocks by Elizabeth, Halle Foslien, and Whitney Westrom, helped lead the Knights to victory in the first set. The next two sets the Knights really struggled with serve receive and defense on the right side.  We lost a lot of points as their middle kept tipping inside the block on the right side and we just couldn’t pick it up.  Our serve receive was also very inconsistent, which then trickled down to us not getting a good first attack on the ball and playing a ton more defense.  Despite the poor performance the scores were close and made for an exciting night of play.  Unfortunately for the Knights this was a big loss in the conference.  From here we just need to keep improving our game, keep our focus for the season, and tomorrow is another day.”

The Knights were led by Rustan (16/19 serving, 2 aces, 12 digs, 19 kills, 2 blocks), Whitney Westrom (26/26 serving, 4 aces, 3 kills, 1 block), Grosz (22/23 serving, 3 aces, 37 set assists, 25 digs), Mya Foslien (7/8 serving, 18 digs, 14 kills), Halle Foslien (7/8 serving, 5 kills, 2 blocks), Addison Staples (10/12 serving, 4 set assists, 5 kills), Kaitlyn Hansen (28 digs) and Madelyn Westrom (7 digs).

Next week the Knights will face Pelican Rapids on Tuesday and Ortonville on Thursday.
