The Fergus Falls Boys Cross Country team traveled to Milaca to compete in the infamous Milaca Mega Meet on Saturday. “This is quite the event and is a very unique opportunity for our runners to be a part of it,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Derek Meyer. “There were well over 100 teams and over 4000 runners that ran this Saturday. The difference in this meet is that most of the races are grade level from 7th grade up to 10th grade, then it is separated by JV and 4 divisions of Varsity by school size. The races started at 10:00am and continued every 15 minutes until 2:30pm. There is a lot going on and even more information to decode to see how the team stood up to the overall competition.”

Meyer continued, “With that being said, the team did outstanding and had a great showing on such a large stage. Every single runner for the Otters ran their best time. I am fired up about our season progress and we are looking to peak at the section meet to get after our team goals.”

The excitement of the day got started by a standout 8th grader Matthew Tuel. With such a large field of runners, it is important to avoid any slow downs or contact. Matthew shot of a cannon at the start and never looked back, he finished 2nd place overall in a close finish with an impressive time of 11:27.3.

The next race was 7th grade boys and Kadyn Zender pushed the pace for the Otters with a 14th place finish. Top 25 individuals earned finishing awards.

Fired up and focused, the 9th grade boys showed up. Great team running and tremendous performances up and down the lineup. The 9th grade Otter boys placed 1st as a scoring team in their division. Jaden Miller set the pace and led the Otters, finishing 4th. Jack Welde followed suit and ran a season best, placing 7th, Logan Bredenberg made the podium placing 21st. Henry Greenagel ran his season best and placed 37th and Tommy Erickson ran his lifetime best placing 50th giving his teammates the points needed for the 1st place finish.

David Ronnevik ran an excellent race in the 10th grade division, he ran a lifetime and season best dropping just under a minute from last week.

Luke Schroeder ran in the varsity division and he ran his season best in a time of 18:26.3.
