The West Central Area volleyball team finished the Parkers Prairie Tournament by winning the consolation championship, improving their overall record this fall to 14-2-1.  The Knights lost to Browerville 2-0 (25-16, 25-21), split with New London-Spicer 13-25, 25-21, and recorded 2-0 wins over Northern Freeze (25-13, 25-20), Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley (25-17, 25-21) and Northern Freeze (25-19, 25-17) a second time.

“This tournament featured teams that were very evenly matched,” said WCA Head Coach Missy Foslien.  “The Knights didn’t seem ready for the first match against an undefeated Browerville team.  The girls played hard, we just did not come out with the energy we needed at the start of the day for a game at that pace.  Our block was right on, we just needed to hold our ground a little better and tighten things up!  The next match against New London-Spicer didn’t start well either, but in the second set the Knights started to build confidence.  A two set win against Northern Freeze in pool play was just enough to get into the championship bracket.  We were able to find our groove, defeating CGB and Northern Freeze to clinch the consolation title.  Props to Macy Grosz and Madelyn Westrom for their great right side defense.  They really make it look so easy that they might be easily overlooked on the court, but the job that they do is so incredibly important, without them we would really struggle.  We found today that in order to be the team we want to be, we need to be prepared mentally, early in the morning or anytime!”

Statistical leaders for the tournament were Elizabeth Rustan (33/36 serving, 6 aces, 24 digs, 30 kills, 3 blocks), Whitney Westrom (38/43 serving, 4 aces, 10 digs, 7 kills, 1 block), Grosz (30/31 serving, 3 aces, 76 set assists, 33 digs, 2 kills), Mya Foslien (21/21 serving, 39 digs, 30 kills), Halle Foslien (28/31 serving, 7 aces, 10 digs, 15 kills, 5 blocks), Addison Staples (18/22 serving, 3 aces, 17 digs, 8 kills, 2 blocks), Kaitlyn Hansen (41 digs), Madelyn Westrom (23 digs) and Sophie Sanstead (18 digs).
