The New York Mills Eagles remained unbeaten on the season with a 26-12 win over previously undefeated Pine River-Backus on Friday night.  The Eagles defense stepped up with four interceptions on the night.

A 63 yard run by Bren Salo gave the Eagles a 6-0 lead in the opening quarter.  Pine River-Backus tied the game on a 26 yard TD pass and the first quarter ended 6-6.

Salo connected with Montgomery Briard on a 24 yard pass in the second quarter, breaking the tie and giving the Eagles a 12-6 lead heading into the half.

Noah Noffsinger caught a 28 yard touchdown pass from Salo in the third quarter and Salo was successful on a two-point conversion try to make it 20-6, Eagles after three.

Pine River-Backus cut the lead to 20-12 on a 7 yard fourth quarter run, however, New York Mills added a 7 yard TD run by Dan Niemi to put the final at 26-12.

“A very good, physical football game,” said New York Mills Head Coach Matt Radniecki.  “Pine River-Backus was 3-0 and they are a good football team.  Our kids played very well tonight in all three areas of the game with special teams, offense and defense.  We were able to hold their rushing attack down and force them to throw the ball.  We had four interceptions which helped us to win the turnover battle, 4-1.  Our offensive and defensive lines did some good things tonight and it was fun to see us be able to move the ball against PRB.  Dane, Bren and Eathan Ruther ran hard all night long and it took a toll on their defense.  This was a big section win for us for seeding and hopefully home field advantage in the playoffs.”

New York Mills will host Bagley in the Eagle homecoming game on Friday.
