West Central Area lost the first two sets of their road match with Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley on Thursday night, 25-19, 25-20, and then fought back to secure a 3-2 win as they took the next three sets 25-17, 25-21, 19-17.

“It was a hard fought game in Graceville tonight,” acknowledged Head Coach Missy Foslien of West Central Area.  “With the Knights starting off down two sets, it could’ve been an early evening, but they rallied back and won the last three sets in an exciting fashion.  It seemed as if the team was intimidated by CGB’s outside hitter Jessica Moberg, we knew we needed to get touches on her attacks to stay with them.  It took us until the third set to settle down and in the fourth set Halle Foslien had some key hits and Whitney Westrom served well to get us out of that set.  The last set was a battle back and forth when the game was tied at 13-13.  After that it was point by point until the Knights clinched the win by two off an ace serve by Mya Foslien, to end it 19-17.”

Elizabeth Rustan (17/19 serving, 2 aces, 21 digs, 17 kills, 2 blocks), Whitney Westrom (16/18 serving, 3 aces, 2 kills, 2 blocks), Macy Grosz (17/18 serving, 4 aces, 39 set assists, 23 digs), Mya Foslien (14/15 serving, 3 aces, 19 digs, 19 kills), Halle Foslien (11/13 serving, 2 aces, 7 kills, 2 blocks), Addison Staples (17/19 serving, 2 aces, 5 set assists, 5 kills, 2 blocks) and Kaitlyn Hansen (25 digs) were the statistical leaders for the lady Knights.

“I really don’t feel like we played our best tonight,” said Coach Foslien.  “We seemed tight, and nervous.  We had quite a few mental errors which we will need to cut down on as the season progresses. It’s important for us to continue to fight through it and we learned that we need to come together as a team to finish and pick each other up after mistakes.  The Knights could see the Wolverines again this Saturday at the Parkers Prairie Tournament, if not we will see them in October for our conference meet.

WCA is now 11-1 on the season.
