The Hillcrest Lutheran Academy Boys Soccer team defeated the Melrose Dutchmen at home on Thursday by the score of 5-2.

Three minutes into the contest, Steffen Synnevaag, scored with a blast from the top of the eighteen, off a feed from Jiun Moon, from the left touch line.  At 37 minutes, Abram Ness attacked up the right side.  He turned the corner at the goal line, beating the Melrose defender, and placed a left footed shot in the top left corner.  One minute later, Nathan Aasnes, chipped a shot towards the goal.  The ball was redirected by a defensemen’s head into the back of the net, ending scoring for the half with the Comets up by three goals.

At 49 minutes, center back, Cole Peterson headed a Melrose goal kick up the middle of the field to Center Mid, Steffen Synnevaag.  Synnevaag placed a pass behind the Defense to Abram Ness, attacking diagonally from the right side.  Ness scored his second goal of the contest with a nice shot to the back of the Melrose net.  At 56 minutes, Comet keeper, Soren Floden, misplayed a ball into the box and was beaten by the Melrose attacker for their first goal of the game.  At 59 minutes, Gabe Swedenburg, took a long throw in to the left corner where Drew Fischer collected the ball.  Drew, turned the corner at the goal line and placed a perfect cross into the small box, where Steffen Sunnevaag placed a one touch volley shot into the back of the Melrose net.  At 68 minutes, the Comets defense was unable to clear the ball during a scrum in the box.  Melrose responded by placing the ball in the Comet net, ending all scoring for the game with the Comets up 5-2.

The Comets launched 23 shots on goal compared to the Dutchmen’s four.

“A win is a win, but, our play today was disappointing,” commented Hillcrest Head Coach Rod Jensen. “The Comets were not mentally prepared and displayed very little desire to do their best.  I thought the Dutchmen played well and worked much harder than the Comets throughout the game!”

The Comets now 7-2-1, face off against crosstown rivals/friends from Fergus Falls on Monday at 7PM, at the Kennedy Secondary School Field.
