Willmar scored a last second goal to clip the Fergus Falls girls’ soccer team 3-2 on Thursday on the Cardinals home field.  The Otters trailed 1-0 at the half, tied it at 1-1, fell behind 2-1, tied it at 2-2 and then allowed the late goal to take the road loss.

Tyra Skjeret received a beautiful through ball from Piper Andrews in the second half and was taken down from behind inside the 18.  Skjeret was awarded a penalty kick, which she converted to tie the game.  Later in the second half Willmar received their second PK of the night and scored to take a 2-1 advantage.  Several minutes later Kiara Grady played a great direct kick over the defense and a crashing Piper Andrews scored to tie the game.  Just as the horn sounded Willmar tucked the game winner in the short side of the net to claim the win.

“Overall, we didn’t play our best tonight, but the girls never stopped working,” said Head Coach Ben Jurgens of the Otters.  “They kept us in the game and gave us a chance.”

The Otters will face the Hillcrest Comets at the Danielson Field at HLA on Tuesday at 4:00pm.
