The Otter Tail Central Bulldogs had an impressive cross country meet in Ada on Thursday, September 17th. Personal record times and season best were everywhere as both varsity squads ended up in 4th place out of the 17 schools that participated. The guys’ side was won by EGF while Hawley took home the girls title.

The girls had a historic race with 3 new top ten all time performances. Led by 8th grader Norah Froslee in 7th place for the meet, her time of 20:50 is the second fastest all time by an OTC runner. Next up was Sophomore Kyleigh Shebeck with a time of 21:34 was 6th all time and Junior Erika Heibel was 9th all-time on the performance list with a time of 21:43. Rounding out the top 5 varsity spots was Ally Goodman and Laney Frost.

“This was a special race for the girls.” Reported head coach Brady Speicher, “Seeing one athlete getting into the top 10 performance list is impressive but to see three girls do it all in the same race is remarkable. As a team we faced off against Wadena today who is probably the favorite in our conference and we were right with them or even ahead through three runners, in order to have a chance at a conference championship we will need a couple runners to step up going forward.”

The Junior high guys had their highest finish of the season in third. The young bulldogs were led by Gabe Lindstrom and Taydon Soma finishing 10th and 11th. Jack Robinson also got inside the top 20 finishing 18th. “I think one of the most exciting things about this season so far is seeing our junior high runners improve every meet,” said Speicher. “If they continue with their current work ethic and growth this group is going to be very special in the next couple of years.”

The top 7 varsity guys all ran season bests on their way to a third place finish. Isaac Scherfenberg was the first Buldog to cross the finish line in 13th place with a time of 18:18. Joseph Froslee and Peter Newak were right on his heels as they finished in 17th and 18th in times of 18:27 and 18:29 respectively.  Jonas Hegemeister and Talyn Setterholm rounded out the scoring finishing in 35th and 36th both with personal record times. Coach Speicher had this to say about the varsity boys, “Today the guys had their closest 1-5 spread that we have had in two years. What is so special about this team is we have about 12 guys competing for a top 7 varsity spot, that constant competition is going to keep the practice intensity high and we will continue to drop time. We had our highest mileage of the season this week so for the guys and girls to compete how they did makes me excited for when we start the peaking process later on this season.”

The Bulldogs head to the Milaca Mega meet Saturday the 25th for their next meet.
