Sykora Scores 4 Times to Lead Knights Past Cardinals 48-12

Anthony Sykora ran for 187 yards and four touchdowns on Friday night to lead the West Central Area/Ashby Knights to a 48-12 win over the Staples-Motley Cardinals.  Hunter Norby added 117 rushing yards and scored a TD for the Knights.

Norby got the scoring started with a 38 yard touchdown run for the only points of the opening quarter.  WCA/Ashby scored 28 second quarter points to take a 34-0 halftime lead.  Sykora scored on an 11 yard run, followed by a two-point conversion pass from Evan Paulson to Mattson Hoff making it 14-0.  The Knights increased their lead to 22-0 on a 33 yard scoring toss from Paulson to Ryder Staples and a two-point conversion pass from Brady Lindquist to Norby.  Sykora’s 3 yard run made it 28-0 and a ten yard pass from Paulson to Torin Olson completed the first half scoring.

In the third quarter, Sykora broke loose for a 45-yard touchdown run and Paulson carried the ball into the end zone for the two-point conversion as the Knights made it 42-0.  Sivert Klefsaas then scored a pair of rushing TD’s for the home team on runs of 2 yards and 30 yards to cut the Knights lead to 42-12.  Sykora’s final touchdown came on a 15 yard run, putting the final score at 48-12.

West Central Area/Ashby compiled 398 yards of offense with 333 coming on the ground.  Paulson completed 3-of-5 passes for 65 yards and he ran for 34 yards on 4 carries.  Defensively, Olson had a pair of interceptions and Hoff recorded a sack, while leading the team with 5 solo tackles and 2 assisted tackles.

The Cardinals were led defensively by Dominic Gomez with 10 tackles and a pick.  Klefsaas also had an interception.  Klefsaas carried the football 13 times for 27 yards.  Isaiah Schultz completed 15-of-37 passes for 245 yards.  Dayton Anderson was his leading receiver with 5 catches for 70 yards.  Klefsaas and Hunter Martin each caught 3 balls for 60 yards.  The Cardinals finished with 274 yards of total offense (245 passing, 29 rushing).
