Yellowjackets Win on Late Touchdown by Hackel

Perham scored with 23 seconds left in the fourth quarter on Friday night to defeat Thief River Falls by the score of 13-7.  Colton Hackel’s second touchdown of the night proved to be the difference for the Yellowjackets.

 

The Prowlers took a 7-0 lead on a one yard run by Kadin Grindeland and an extra point kick by Caleb Rosendahl with 1:41 left in the opening quarter.  The touchdown caped a 19 play, 93-yard scoring drive.

Hackel ran the ball into the end zone from 3 yards out with just 11 seconds left in the first half and then added the PAT kick to tie the game at 7-7.

Perham finished with 192 yards rushing and 111 passing yards for a total of 303 yards on the night.  Although they fumbled six times, the Yellowjackets only lost the ball once.  They also threw an interception.  Hackel had a big night, running for 168 yards on 25 carries and completing 7-of-16 passes for 111 yards.  Josh Peterson hauled in four of the passes for 75 yards.

Defensively, Jaxon Vetsch recorded a sack, Rian Solberg forced a fumble and had a fumble recovery and the leading tacklers were Ben Shumansky (8 solo tackles) and Hudson Hackel (7 solo tackles, 1 assist).

Trevor Rose had an interception and Cody Wienen a fumble recovery to lead the Thief River Falls defensive effort.  Braedon Potucek led the Prowler rushing attack with 98 yards on 13 attempts.  Brayden Spears completed 2-of-5 passes for 67 yards.  Rose caught one pass for 35 yards and Max Peterson had one reception for 32 yards.  The Prowlers finished with 216 yards of offense (149 rushing, 67 passing).

Perham improved to 2-0 on the season.
