Wolverines Overcome 20-7 Deficit to Beat Menahga 21-20

Wadena-Deer Creek overcame a 20-7 third quarter deficit on Friday night to defeat the Menahga Braves by the score of 21-20.  Tyson Barthel hauled in a 32-yard TD pass from Payton Rondestvedt to bring the Wolverines to within a point and the two-point conversion run by Rondestvedt put the winning points on the board.

Rondestvedt completed 10-of-22 passes for 126 yards and 3 touchdowns on the night, while adding a team high 47 yards on 14 carries.  Josh Dykhoff caught the other two TD passes, the first one from 5 yards out in the first quarter and the second one from 21 yards out in the third quarter.  Barthel finished the game with 4 catches for 79 yards and Dykhoff had 3 receptions for 43 yards.  Defensively, Isaac Christianson had 5 solo tackles and 7 assisted tackles.

Brock Berttunen scored the first Menahga touchdown on a one yard run.  The Braves also scored on a 70 yard run by Ethan Hendrickson and a 5 yard run by Hendrickson, with both TD’s coming in the third quarter.  Logan Torma ran the ball in for a two-point conversion following Hendrickson's first TD.

Hendrickson led Menahga with 140 rushing yards on 19 carries.  Torma finished with 12 attempts for 75 yards.

Wadena-Deer Creek had 228 yards of offense (126 passing, 102 rushing) and Menahga had 248 (61 passing, 187 rushing).  Each team recorded 12 first downs.
