If you didn't attend or listen to this past Thursday night's soccer match, you missed out on some great soccer and history making efforts by the Alexandria Cardinals. The Cardinal Boys soccer team hosted the reigning Section 8 champions, the St Cloud Tech Tigers.

"With competitive play the entire match, it was strong possession play by the Tigers as the Cardinals were comfortable simply waiting for the few mistakes to be made so they could capitalize on them," stated Alexandria Head Coach Brandon Johnson. "It was a defense heavy focus for the Cardinals, but it paid off."

The first goal came from the Tigers in the 10th minute of play. The Cardinals responded when Myles Sansted was able to secure the first Cardinal goal in the 20th minute of play, unassisted. This ended the half at 1-1.

"Of course, the Cardinals were excited to still be in the game with a well-poised Tech team," noted Coach Johnson.  "Second half saw much of the same great ball movement and determination to work together."

The last goal of the match came in the 62nd minute of play when Jack Carlson took a free kick and ended up placing the ball perfectly out of the reach of the Tigers Goalkeeper.

History being made as the Cardinals have only ever started one other season at a 4-0 record, that being in 2015. Walking onto the pitch with a 4-0 record, the Cardinals made history when the match ended and they walked off the pitch at 5-0. No other Cardinal Soccer team has started a season 5-0. This goes to show the strength and tenancy of these players.

Gatorade of the Game went to Thomas Klecker for continuing to control the midfield both on offense and defense.

The Cardinal Boys Soccer team is currently 5-0 on the season and look forward to traveling to Sartell on Monday for a 5pm kick off.
