The Alexandria Boys Soccer team hosted the St Cloud Apollo Eagles for a Central Lakes Conference and section matchup this past Tuesday evening. The Cardinals swept in for another bird battle, and the Cardinals came up with a 1-0 win.

The first half of the match was an equal battle between teams. The play was physical and tough, but the Cardinals maintained possession well and continued to put pressure into the attacking third. Despite holding the score to 0-0 at the half, it appeared the Eagles had a slight edge over the Cardinals.

Making an adjustment to play, the Cardinals worked hard to keep possession and slowly build up attacking plays. This shift confused the Eagles and pushed them into a panic response to their first half style of play. As part of this shift on the Cardinals side, came the lone match goal in the 55th minute of play when Jack Carlson found the back of the net while finishing a cross frame pass from Joaquim Ramos.

The match was a great test to continue the momentum the Cardinal team has going into a difficult stretch of the season. Proving more to themselves, the team continues to see the depth of players both their ability to work as a unit and play to each other's strengths. This was a solid match and a great section and conference win.

Gatorade of the Game went to Holden Hansen for his continued effort up and down the pitch as a relentless player for the entire match.

The Cardinal Boys Soccer team is currently 4-0 on the season and will look to host St Cloud Tech this Thursday at home for a 7pm kick off.
